Believe…I Am the Resurrection and the Life
Few things test our faith more than waiting.
Especially when we're hurting.
In John 11, Mary and Martha send word to Jesus that their brother Lazarus is sick. They know Jesus loves him. They know Jesus can heal him. Yet instead of rushing to Bethany, Jesus waits.
From their perspective, it must have felt confusing.
Maybe you've felt that way too.
You've prayed.
You've trusted.
You've asked God to move.And yet nothing seems to happen.
One of the most surprising truths in this story is that Jesus loved them deeply, and still delayed.
Why?
Because God's love doesn't always look like immediate intervention.
Sometimes God is preparing us to see something greater than we imagined.
By the time Jesus arrives, Lazarus has been dead for four days. Humanly speaking, all hope is gone.
Yet Jesus steps into their grief.
In one of the most powerful moments in Scripture, we read:
"Jesus wept."
Even knowing resurrection was moments away, Jesus still entered their pain.
He wasn't distant from their suffering.
He wasn't indifferent to their tears.He cared deeply.
Then Jesus makes an incredible declaration:
"I am the resurrection and the life."
Moments later, He calls Lazarus from the tomb.
Death obeys.
This miracle reminds us that Jesus has authority over the things that seem impossible. He is greater than disappointment, grief, loss, and even death itself.
When life hurts, we can run toward Jesus rather than away from Him because He understands our pain.
And because of His resurrection, we can trust that death never gets the final word.
