Finding Your Center

Lessons from Horse Training and Leadership Imagine life as a wild horse. It's exhilarating, unpredictable, and sometimes a bit chaotic. We all have moments when we feel like we're galloping through life without direction. But what if we could harness that energy and find our center? That's where the magic happens. Todd Pierce, a renowned horse trainer, teaches that to train a horse, you must be centered, in control, and calm. These principles aren't just for horses—they're for us too. Whether you're leading a team, a family, or just yourself, these are the keys.

  1. Be Centered:
  • Being centered means having a stable foundation. When life gets wild, where do you find your peace? It’s found by being centered on Christ, committed to good character, content in your identity, and having courage where God has called you. Whether you are leading others or just leading yourself you have to be centered.
  1. Be in Control:
  • Control isn't about being a dictator; it's about guiding with wisdom. In life, we often hand over control to distractions or fears. Instead, let's hold the reins and lead others and ourselves. To lead others we have to have the knowledge to know when to lead and when to let them lead. This knowledge will help you to know how to love people unconditionally, empower them fully, affirm them continually, and to disciple them relentlessly.
  1. Be Calm:
  • Calmness is your superpower. In a world that thrives on chaos, staying calm allows you to understand the situation and make wise decisions. It's about responding, not reacting. When we react we often lose our ability to lead and understand.
The Bible offers timeless wisdom on being centered. In Jeremiah 3:15, God promises to give shepherds after His own heart—leaders who are centered, knowledgeable, and understanding. This is a call for us to be leaders in our own lives, grounded in God. Ultimately, the best example of centered leadership is Jesus. He was consistent, committed, and calm, even in the face of adversity. Whether you're a believer or exploring faith, there's much to learn from His life. So, let's embark on this journey together. Let's find our center, lead with love, and make a difference in the world. Let Jesus lead you and train you as you lead and train others.
