Better + Brighter: Be Rich
Better + Brighter: week 9: Be Rich
Jesus redefines what it means to be rich. True wealth isn’t found in what we accumulate but in what we invest in eternity. When we store up treasures in heaven, fix our vision on what matters, and choose the right Master, we discover a life that is truly better and brighter.

Week 9 — Be Rich
Matthew 6:19-24
What does it really mean to be rich?
Our culture defines richness by accumulation—money, influence, experiences, and success. But Jesus flips that definition upside down. In Matthew 6, He invites us into a better kind of wealth—one rooted not in what fades, but in what lasts forever.
Jesus begins by challenging our investments. Every one of us is investing our lives somewhere—time, money, attention, passion. The question isn’t if we’re investing, it’s where. Earthly investments eventually rust, break, or disappear. But eternal investments never lose value. When we give, serve, love, and build the Kingdom, we’re storing treasure that cannot be taken away.
Then Jesus shifts to our vision. He says the eye is the lamp of the body, meaning what we focus on shapes who we become. A life centered on comparison, greed, or consumption grows darker over time. But a life focused on generosity and gratitude grows brighter. When we train our eyes to see like Jesus sees, our whole life fills with light.
Finally, Jesus confronts our allegiance. We cannot serve both God and money. One will always win our trust. Money promises security but delivers anxiety. Jesus offers something better—peace, purpose, and abundance that goes far deeper than material wealth.
If we want to live better and brighter, the invitation is simple: invest in eternity, fix your eyes on truth, and serve the right Master. That’s where true richness is found.
