Better + Brighter: Be Prayerful

Better + Brighter: week 7: Be Prayerful

Jesus teaches us to pray with intention, humility, and persistence. Prayer isn’t performance — it’s connection. When we create space, follow His pattern, and trust God’s goodness, prayer transforms us and keeps us grounded in a broken world.

    Week 6 — Be Authentic

    Main Scripture - Matthew 6:1–4

Big Idea: Authentic faith seeks God’s approval rather than human applause. Jesus invites us to live sincerely, cultivating private devotion, humility, and honesty before God.

    1. Connect (Ice Breaker)

What’s something people often polish on the outside—social media posts, resumes, first impressions, or home décor? Why do we do that?

    2. Discover (Scripture & Discussion)

    Read Matthew 6:1–4 aloud.

Jesus warns against practicing righteousness to be noticed. The danger is not generosity or devotion—it is motive. When faith becomes performance, intimacy with God is replaced by the pursuit of approval. Throughout the week, the readings emphasized honesty before God, guarding the heart, humility, and freedom from pressure. Authentic faith is formed in the unseen places where God reshapes motives.

    Discussion Questions

    • Why is it tempting to let faith become something we display rather than something we live?

    • How can spiritual disciplines slowly drift into performance?

    • Which weekday theme challenged you most—honesty, guarding your heart, humility, or freedom from pressure?

    • How does what happens privately shape what others see publicly?

    3. Respond (Application & Prayer)

Authenticity grows when we stop trying to impress and start inviting God to examine our hearts.
