Believe: Week 1: Who Is Jesus To You?

Who is Jesus really? A miracle worker? A teacher? A prophet? A good man? In John 7, people are divided over Jesus. Some are amazed by Him while others are offended by Him. Yet Jesus continues revealing who He truly is: the Messiah who satisfies our deepest thirst. The question isn’t simply who culture says He is - the question is who He is to you.

    Believe…Who Is Jesus To You?

Everyone has an opinion about Jesus.

History’s most debated, loved, criticized, followed, and misunderstood figure continues to divide people today just like He did in John 7. Some admire Him as a teacher. Others dismiss Him as irrelevant. Some are drawn to Him. Others are offended by Him.

But Jesus never really leaves room for neutrality.

In John 7, the crowds are buzzing with questions and opinions:

    • “He’s a good man.”

    • “No, He’s deceiving people.”

    • “Could this really be the Messiah?”

    • “Where is He from?”

    • “Who does He think He is?”

And in the middle of all the noise, Jesus reveals Himself.

    Jesus the Miracle Worker

The crowds had seen His miracles. Water turned to wine. Storms calmed. Blind eyes opened. Broken lives restored. His miracles weren’t random displays of power; they were signs pointing to His identity.

    Jesus still works miracles today.

Sometimes the miracle is physical healing. Sometimes it’s a restored marriage. Sometimes it’s freedom from addiction. Sometimes it’s salvation itself — a heart made alive again.

The same Jesus who transformed lives in John 7 still transforms lives today.

Jesus the Most Loved and Most Hated

Jesus says the world hates Him because He exposes evil. Truth has a way of confronting us. We like encouragement, but correction feels threatening. We love truth until it asks us to change.

    That tension still exists today.

Some people love Jesus because He offers grace, hope, purpose, and life. Others resist Him because He challenges their identity, habits, priorities, or worldview.

No one in human history has been more loved or more hated than Jesus.

    Jesus the Great Teacher

People were amazed because Jesus taught with unmatched authority. He didn’t speak like someone merely repeating information. He spoke as the Author of truth itself.

And yet, His teaching was remarkably simple:

    • stories about sheep

    • coins

    • seeds

    • sons

    • vineyards

    Jesus made eternal truth understandable.

    Jesus the Messiah

The Jewish people longed for the promised King — the One who would rescue, restore, and reign. Jesus declares that He is that promised Savior.

    The deeper reality is this:
    we’re all searching for rescue.

We want hope. Freedom. Peace. Home. Purpose.

And Jesus says those things are ultimately found in Him.

    Jesus Who Satisfies

At the climax of John 7, Jesus stands and cries out:

“If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.”

Every human being is thirsty for something:

    • acceptance

    • significance

    • comfort

    • identity

    • peace

We try to satisfy our souls with success, relationships, pleasure, achievement, entertainment, or approval. Yet nothing fully satisfies.

Jesus says only He can truly quench our thirst.

    So…Who Is Jesus to You?

That’s the real question of John 7.

    Not:

    • Who was Jesus to your parents?

    • Who is Jesus to culture?

    • Who is Jesus historically?

    But:

    Who is Jesus to you?

Because eventually every person must respond.
